Access Limited in French Gulch Area During
Fire Recovery Work
Aug. 31, 2004 - A recent 13,000 acre fire
burned through the area
around French Gulch west of Redding, CA. With fire recovery efforts now
in full swing in the French Gulch area, the Bureau of Land Management
(BLM) and other agencies have announced back country travel
restrictions. The BLM said all spur roads and trails are temporarily
closed while crews are completing projects to stabilize hillsides and
repair fire lines built to contain the French Fire.
Motor vehicle traffic will be limited to the Trinity Mountain, Tom
Green Mine, French Gulch, Highland Ridge and North County Line roads,
BLM officials said. Signs and gates will be used to mark closed areas.
Officials are asking people to stay out of the areas so that projects
can be completed as quickly as possible.
