San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area Re-opens
Located in the Angeles
National Forest, winter
storms had washed away all of the rock protecting the river from
vehicles illegally entering the river. All designated river crossings
were destroyed due to high water, and half of the signs were destroyed.
It took a long time for
the high water to subside
so that repair work could begin. The Forest Service finished the repair
on Sunday, May 29, thanks to the help of volunteer group ACORA (Azusa
Canyon Off-Roader Association).
30-50 ACORA volunteers
worked every Sunday for 5
weeks to get the job done, contributing approximately 1,000 volunteer
hours. ACORA also rented a loader, provided an operator, and purchased
approximately 75 carsonite signs.
The OHV area will be open
Saturdays, Sundays, and
holidays. Summer hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Price: $8 for primary
vehicle (e.g. truck and trailer) and $5 for every secondary vehicle
(ATV, dune buggy, etc.)
