Petition to ammend a current limited-liablity law to include Offroad Vehicles. Our previous petition lost 800 signatures (nearly all of them) due to a computer malfunction at the hosting website. Here is our new and improved petition.

If you are an Louisiana native, please use http://la4x4.com/petition.htm petition form.

Need Support So We Can Wheel !!!!!
Recently a law was passed in Louisianna to remove landowner liability for ATV's. We are working with a LA. senator to amend the law to allow fullsize vehicles. This has been done in several other states.
We (members of LA4x4) have created an online petition for out of state residents to sign to show their support for this amendment. Out of state groups traveling to Louisiana has the potential to provide significant economic impact to the Sportsman's Paradise and this is an EASY way for fellow off-roaders to show their support!

Please fill out the petition with accurate information. Most of the land our club rides on is private property. With current laws our club is having a difficult time finding liability insurance because of this we have not had an in-state club ride in several months. With this law ammended we should be able to easily find coverage.

Please distribute the link above to everyone you know! No matter where they live, we want their signature!

Thank you for your help and feel free to pass along any questions to laoffroadpetition@yahoo.com!

Sincerely,
Lance Green
Louisiana 4x4 member at large

This is from Matt Marshall of LA4x4:
------------
Well.....after months of hard work, hand wringing and letter writing, I am excited to let everyone know that amendments have been submitted to both the House and the Senate!!!.

HB45 has been submitted to the House of Representatives by Tom McVea, Representative from the St. Francisville area. As written, HB45 redefines an off-road vehicle as a "two- or four-wheeled vehicle not exceeding a gross weight of 8,500lbs." As of 4/2, the bill has been submitted to the Civil Law and Procedures Committee.

SB145 has been submitted to the Senate by Senator Ellington from Northern Louisiana. As written, SB145 redefines an off-road vehicle as a "two- or four-wheeled vehicle weighing 11,500 lbs or less." As of 4/2, the bill has been submitted to the Transportation, Highway and Public Works Committee.

In the coming weeks, Jerry Lobell and I will likely be called to testify in front of the House committee and, possibly, the Senate committee. The House and Senate will be moving ahead separately but we will be working to come to a satisfactory compromise in weight limits as both houses must agree on the same weight.

We have put together an excellent argument for passage of these amendments and, at this time, I feel that things are "looking up." As you can imagine, there will likely be bumps in the road, but please be assured that we have a ton of evidence on the family-oriented nature and economice impact of our activities which we feel will help us tremendously!

Please feel free to pass along any ideas or information you may have that you feel might be influential in presenting our case!

I will do my best to keep everyone informed on our progress!

Matt

Well...I am proud to announce that the first major leap has been taken!
Currently, we have bills in both the Louisiana Senate AND Legislature that
will provide liability protection for events involving vehicles weighing up
to 8,500 pounds!!!

In the coming weeks, a group of us will be called to testify in front of
both the House and Senate in support of this bill and WE NEED YOUR HELP ONCE
AGAIN! We are making every effort to present a strong case regarding the
economic impact that off-road activities provide to the state and the MOST
IMPORTANT element of this is showing that out-of-state off-roaders would
travel to Louisiana for organized events.

What we are asking for is two simple things:

1. SIGN OUR ONLINE PETITION! You can do so by clicking on the following
link and entering a few pieces of information:

http://www.gopetition.com/online/3580.html

2. Help us gain additional signatures by SPREADING THE WORD OF OUR EFFORTS!
If you have friends, family, co-workers, or fellow off-roaders who would be
willing to take just a few seconds to help us out, we would GREATLY
appreciate you passing this message on asking for their support! Feel
free to post this message on any forums, send it out to 4x4 organizations
you belong to.....ANYTHING to help us gain additional signatures!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help us out and feel free to
contact me with any questions or ideas you may have! Any ideas on how we
can gain additional support are always welcome!

With sincere thanks for your time and effort,

Matt Marshall
Legislative Coordinator--LA4x4
