Likely not. The bolt patterns and input shafts are different between the AX5 and AX15. If you can find a complete engine/tranny/t-case, that'll probably be your best bet.

What he said.....plus I think you may have emissions problems. Try to get the complete stup out of a model as new or newer than yours.

Exactly. I don't know what the laws are in NY, but in PA, for an engine swap to be legal, it needs to be from the same year or newer. I imagine NY is similar with their laws. Check in to that before making the dive.

Trust me, it would be cheaper if you just got a new jeep with the 6cyl already in it. I've already been down this road learn from my mistakes.

Probably. I work in Allentown and travel around the city for work.

Actually...I think I was on my way home from work. Were you heading towards Allentown?

ugh. but selling my jeep would be such an ordeal. not to mention probably heart breaking. It's my first jeep. I've got an attachment to it.
my boyfriend works at a mechanic shop and from time to time i bring my jeep in and they do some work on it. One of the guys there has a YJ that he's swapping engines in. I was gonna get the old one. Hey, it's free, how can I say no to that? Wink

You'll need a tranny and transfer case (possibly a new engine harness and computer also) to go with the engine. A lot of States won't let you install an older motor than the body for emission testing - dunno if you're in a State like that tho.
What's wrong with the 4 cyl? If nothing, keep it and re-gear the axles. There's some guys competing here in the NARRCA events running 4 bangers with 36" and larger tires and WINNING!

I'm in the same boat as you - I've got too much invested in my jeep to make me want to sell it, but the 2.5 can be a little lacking. Something I've been kicking around is an inertia ring. It's not nearly as much work and will help with your low end.
You shouldn't have any legal problems with something like that, but I know here in CA, it takes an act of god to get DMV to sign off on an engine swap. Be sure to check your local laws before swapping anything. Wink

36"tires?? I don't know how true this is, but I was told that my 4cyl wouldn't even be able to move 36"tires. hmm...?

Thats awsome! yeah, I have a boyfriend who works at a mechanic shop he knows quite a bit about cars, but he's alot of talk when it comes to jeeps. And how would he know? Noone in his family drives jeeps.

Yeah, he keeps telling me my engine sucks. I had a choice between a 6cyl yj and my 4cyl tj when I bought my jeep. I chose the tj.

He hasn't let me live it down yet. (I think he's still bent that I didn't bring him w/me to look at it).

but anyway, yeah, he said my 4cyl wouldn't even be able to power bigger tires. So, gullible me, believed him.

So I guess it can. And thats awsome! Hooray!! I'm gonna have the monster jeep of my dreams!!...(someday) thanks headbang
