Here's my 4cyl tj with 33" tires on it

I don't have any problems. Yeah the 4cyl is a little weak, but it can still get the job done.

they look good.

I have 31's on mine now, but I think 33s w/ mabey a 1 or 2" susp lift would be awsome.

I don't want too tall of a jeep, but I like the beefy-wide look.

With the right gearing, you can have whatever size tires you want. With your current axles, you're really limited to 4.56s. They make 4.88s for the D30/35 but they start to get kinda weak at that ratio and a lot of guys don't recommend running them. I believe D44s go up to at least 5.13....which would probably be what I would think a good ratio for your 4cyl with a 5-speed. However, this would require swapping axles....which you'd want to do anyway if you'll be running 36s.

hmm, well I watched a 4 cyl TJ w/ 35's and 5.13's smoke a clutch trying to get up an obstacle... RPM's were at about 3500 and that thing wasn't moving. It did make it up, but at that point I was thankin myself for going for the 6 cyl.

Yeah, a 4 cyl. can work, but your going to have to "work it" to make it work.

one more thing... a 4 cyl can push anything w/ the right gearing, but if your loadin up w/ tires, your gear ratio will really need to be LOW LOW LOW.

I guess it depends on what you plan on doing w/ it once you load it up w/ big ole meats

That's the problem with buying your first jeep and not knowing the difference. When my engine blew I didn't want to get a new one because I felt attached to mine, didn't want to put a bigger engine in it because it wasn't economical. Went with another 4cyl engine, next time, I don't care I'm buying a new jeep!
