Having recently taken the decision to go over to the dark side and purchase some AR-767's I thought I had better ask about weight on the spare. Will an AR-767 and 33x12.5 on the rear door damage the hinges or anything?

I cant find the weight of the BFG's anywhere, so I cant compare them to the MT/R's and wheel which do cause problems for the hinges.

I did send an email to AR asking the weight of the 767's in the 15x8 size. There responce was 26 pounds each which is the same as the Rubes Moab wheels. I would guess that the 33" BFG's weigh pretty close to the 31" MT/R's. Maybe even a little more.

From day 1 with my Rube I have had to help the tailgate shut due to the weight of the MT/R making the door sag just a little. The weight also tips the top of the gate back which tips the bottom in so that the tailgate is never right when closed. The rear window will pop open sometimes while driving down the road. I know that these are problems voiced by alot of Rubi owners.

No damage is done...yet, but I dont beleive that DC has done anything to improve it either.

I've seen lots of YJ's running rock crawler rims w/ 33's and no issue. I was never one of them. My brother ran his 35's on rock crawler rims for a long time, but he has paid the price. His tailgate is shot. My quick an dirty answer: it is fine in the short term, but I wouldn't choose it as a long-term solution.

What goes on them? Is it the hinges? Is it permanent damage or can it be repaired?

Sounds like its time for a decent carrier.

I hade always planned to do something like that ever since I bought my first TJ. If you dont want to do a bumper/carrier and want to keep the convience of the stock tailgate then maybe a Bestop.
I had thought of doing this because it opens with the tailgate just like the stocker. It will hold up to a 35" 200 pounds.

I ended up going for the Jeeperman Rock Bumper and carrier. Everyone loves there Jeeperman stuff and I wanted a spot to mount my Hi-lift.

The hinges sag badly, the seal isn't as good, sometimes his tailgate OPENS UP!!! Shocked And the body is starting to rip, and the carrier bolted to the body is starting to crack. That enough damage for you? Neutral

Think Jeeperman! I had a 33/13.5 on a rockcrawler rim for a while and it goofed up the hinge to the point that I had people honking at me when I would hit a bump because they thought it was going to pop open. Shocked

My Jeeperman Front single hoop and Rear w/Carrier just came in today

I must say that they came in the nicest cardboard boxes Ive ever seen. Mr. Green

These things Rock! The are very rugged.......I found one of the Fedex guys testicles out in the driveway......those bumpers are heavy. I opened the boxes just to take a peek. I will say that the welders at Jeeperman take alot of pride in the workmanship. The welds are super clean. Real nice powdercoat finish.

I cant wait for spring to put these on.

Todd

Hey Eddie, I see that the rear bumper has a couple of different mounting holes to accomodate BL's. I also ordered the Frame tie in mounts, will these still work with the bumper in the BL position?

Thanks
Todd

Yes. That's how I have mine setup. The bumper is in the BL position with the frame tie-ins.

Don't know if it's a dead issue yet Mike, but I ran a 33"/767 combo on the stock carrier for almost a year and there was no ill effects that I can see. Just make sure the rubber stoppers on the tailgate are touching the spare to distribute the load properly.
