Anyone know of a cheaper way to get a higher amp Alternator without spending $350 on a Mean Green?

TIA
Todd

alterstart has some cheaper ones, look on ebay. They look jsut as good as Mean Green to me.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&ht=1&query=jeep+alternator

They have everything from 135 AMP to 205 AMP.

Also, see if there is a local shop around you. I had one guy quote me $75 to rebuild my alternator to whatever Amperage I wanted. The only thing is my Jeep would be alternatorless for about a week.

Todd, did you ever investigate the link that Eric posted? Will it work on a newer jeep? I'd found the same thread elsewhere but I'm in luck having a 97 and all. Finger

You can let your fingers do the walkin'. My Brother in Law found an alternator shop that can rebuild your stock alternator to any configuration that you want, warranty and all. I'm sure that you have to have a shop listed in the phone book. The only problem would be that your Jeep would be alternatorless for a few days, so having a DD is a plus.

Or grab one from a salvage yard to have rebuild and then just swap it in.

Thanks Derek and Eric, I was wondering if a local shop could do that. As far as being without my rig for a few days, no problemo, Im in my work van during the week anyway so the TJ just sits. Then I got the Outback too.
