How does cutting it up like that affect the strength of the frame? _________________ Psalm 27: 1-3 |

Carl will answer but to my knowlege he is only cutting the actual body, so it shouldn't affect the frame at all. The only thing he is really doing in that regard is shaving off weight.
The frame is underneath the body, and he hasn't been cutting on it (yet) _________________ But hey, WTF do I know? I kick Hippies for fun.

Quad Incase you didnt know .. CHerokees and Grand cherokees are unit body. That means I have no real frame.. They are right in assuming that cutting the body will affect stabilty..
However...
I braced the inside with a piece of 1/4" 1 1/2 X 1 /12 angle I bent it over and bolted and welded it in place then I wrapped a piece of 14 ga. steel around the outside of hte cab and welded it to roof and the angle..
THat is the angle that you can see at the bottom of the above pic..
MY end conclusion is that the 14 ga. steel is far thicker than the original body piece that I cut off.. I have since ramped it several times to check on body flex and I have none... The doors still open when I am on an incline ramp (which they didnt always do before) I pulled up a ramp and got out and opened all 4 doors and closed them several times with no problems...
Soooooooo.. I think It will be fine...
Ill keep you informed..
On a side note .. I am picking up a bender this week to build a bumper. I may just cage it while I am at it.. Depends on how I feel... _________________ BONE STOCK

Gonna cage the inside and maybe put a frame inside the newly formed bed..
I am also going to take some 4" channel and cover my entire sub frame so that I have something strong to tie the cage to..
But thats a whole nother project...
The frame that I put in the back..(If I put one) will be small bore solid rod.
Maybe 1" or 1 1/4" and just go around the top and bottom of the bed then connected and gusseted... I want it as small as possible if I do it... That way I am not loosing any of my bed..
More interested in cageing the drivers compartment and strenghtening the frame...Than I am doing anything to the back.. IT feels fine I am very satisfied with the overall structural strenght of the current setup..
The cage is not for any kind of support its mearly to protect my coconut... In case of rollover... _________________ BONE STOCK
