CAGE DESIGN
By FrankN

More to come after this weekend.

here is why the cage looks that way. i stood it on end and ran for about 10-12 feet (front wheels only) before i saw the boulder coming and let off. so close to running out from under it

Brian (Titan) checks out the current state of the Jeep.

FrankN making more calculations for....well, everything!

Here I am (Sheep) plasma-cutting Mike's hood.

The narrowed hood and the removed section.

The new radiator and grill support hoop. The radiator will
mount inside, and the Tarus fan will mount on the back.

Crap! Don't you hate it when the power steering fluid
catches on fire when you're welding to the filler tube?

The narrowed hood clamped down for a test fit.

Rear view of the narrowed hood.

That's all for today. The last bit of bending we did
is "Top Secret" at the moment. It's some CRAZY stuff
that's just started and isn't ready to show yet. This
stuff just blows my mind. FrankN and Mike are doing
things I can't even believe.

Maybe someday we'll actually get to the CAGE
portion of this project. LOL!

Not working on it tomorrow, so no more updates until
Friday morning.

I like that design. Mr. Green
How much of the body are you going to put back on?

I'd guess not a lot.

I'll separate it into 3 posts for the 3 separate days of work.

FRIDAY,
APRIL 16th

Plans have changed a little bit.....

Mike removed the rear hoop we'd already welded in place.

Doing some cleanup work on new tube.

FrankN checking the length of the new tube.

Yeah, we cut off a little more frame. [Very Happy]

It's cut off right behind the first side body mount.
Basically, everything from the firewall back is gone.

Here's the cutoff section of the frame in the
back of FrankN's truck.

Here's why we decided to cut this much of the frame off.
As you can see, the frame had developed a serious crack.
We cut the frame to match the same cracked location.

Here is the bent tubing for the NEW frame. We'll start
putting it together tomorrow.

[Smile]

Here is the end cap FrankN welded to the cut end
of the remaining frame.

Mike and Steve (Poon) welding the new frame tubes
and standoffs into a complete rail assembly.

The two completed frame rail assemblies strapped
together for placement.

Jason Skwarek (Squarepants) notching tube ends.

Mike is reming any extra weight possible. He had me cut
off the excess from his winch plate. Every ounce counts!

Mike and Claudia (Crow) begin working on the electric
radiator fan shroud mount.

Rob (Insane) tack welding the frame rails and rear

FrankN test fitting the side slider to the new frame.

Rob welds the new frame rails into place.

Here's the completed new frame and rear main bar.

Here I am (Sheep) knocked out from alergy medicine.
I had to go home and take a nap!

Here's what happens when you leave the camera with
FrankN and Rob. [Wink]

Here's what happens with FrankN closes the garage
door on his finger tips! Ouch, that had to hurt!

After my nap, the guys had the frame rails, rear main
bar, and side sliders all welded into place. Steve, Lance,
and Robert (Mountainlander) all showed up to check it out.

Another view of the new frame and sliders.

The next step is the cage. Here, FrankN test fits the
first of the new side pillars.

It's been a long weekend. Even Patrick is worn out!

That's all for now. I'll post more progress pics as
I take them. Hopefully we won't get rained out the
next couple of days. If so, FrankN is just going to
do more cutting and bending in the garage.
