I got me a Haynes manual and a new fuel filter. It seems easy enough to change but I have to ask something. It says to have some rags and such for when you take off the old one...how much gas is gonna come pourin out of there? Should I wait to change it til I am a bit low on gas? Anything special I should look out for?

The best way that I've found is to change a filter is to completely purge the system of pressure. You have to remove the gas cap, and push in the schrader valve on the fuel rails...

Then get yourself a hose clamp, once you remove the filter IMMEDIATELY use the clamp to secure the hose to a high point on the chasis (as high as the line allows) most of the fuel should find its way back to the tank when you do this.

You will lose some gas, I've yet to figure out a way from keeping my arm getting gas on it, LOL. But this is the best way I 've found so far from completely soaking myself...shoulda seen the first time I attempted this...LOL lets just say I had the toss a T-shirt because the wife wouldn't let me put it in the clothes washer.

The schrader valve is located on the fuel rail...it looks like a valve stem on your tire. I believe that its under a black screw down cap on the rail.

Its basically a test point to see your fuel pressure at the rail...some use it to hook up N2O if they have a "wet" system.

If you still have the factory gas tank shield (I refuse to call it a skid any longer :rofl ), make sure it's not dented in at all. I hadda helluva hard time getting my pump back in the tank after swapping it out only to realize my shield was banged in. Some reverse banging with the trusty BFH and all was well again. Also, watch out for the plastic clips on the tank for the vent tubes. They tend to break easily.....not that I would know Mr. Green .
