[QUOTE=Electric Sheep]SATURDAY,
APRIL 25th
BLING!
Something radical has happened....
Notice how LOW the engine is sitting?
Mike lowered the motor three inches! There's still a lot
of work to do on it, but the purpose of this is to
lower the center of gravity AND to allow the hood and
cowl to sit lower for better visibility.
Here you can see how the cage is coming together. The main
side bars come all the way back and cross before connecting
to the rear main bar.
You can really see how everything is coming together.
The double-tube frame, the side sliders, the rear main
bar, the main a-piller side bars, the b-pillars, and
the radiator hoop all in place now. The hood and cowl
are also cut to size (you can sort of see the cowl pieces
on top of the trash can behind Mike).
That's all for now. I couldn't make it over sunday, so I'll
try to run over to Mike's this evening and take pictures of
the things they accomplished.

[QUOTE=Electric Sheep]MONDAY,
APRIL 26th
New garage door handle installed so FrankN won't smash his fingers again.
Dash bar, a-pillar spreader, and b-pillar spreader tacked in. Notice the
b-pillar spreader is set back a couple of inches from the actual b-pillars.
This is for headroom, and it will tie in better with the rear "X".
Here you can see how the hood and cowl (what's left of it, anyway) will
sit in relation to the dash bar. Still need to build a firewall.
Bling! The old grille is gone, replaced with lightweight chrome
which has been narrowed to match the previously narrowed hood.
You can really see how narrow the whole rig is gonna be now.
Even though everything is just clamped on right now, it's really
starting to come together. It's easy to visualize where this project
is going and what it *should* turn out like.
So FrankN is in Houston, and Mike is leaving tomorrow for a week-long
family vacation. This project won't see any more work for a while, but
the next step is probably going to be building the "X" over the cockpit
and another "X" behind the seats. Then there's the seat mounting bars,
the new upsidedown cross member, the firewall, etc.
TONS of stuff left to do.

Mike thinking about the rear suspension. Checking out different ideas.
Here is the removalbe tranny mount in place.
same mount from the bottom side.
The rat's nest of lines that I have to relocate.
Here is the tranny mount before it was installed. The two angles on the end are tacked together to keep everything lined up dring installation.
Here you see the recess for the heads of the tranny mounting bolts so mike is less likely to snap them off.
Here I am on top of things. [:p]
Here is where Mike was trying to show me how he wanted the gas tank mounted.
The winch plate welded in place. It will have a gusset tube that comes up to the radiator support that matches up with the support on the engine side.
Windshield brace.
Checking out steering wheel location.
Patrick is not ammused.
Another rats nest picture.
This is the shot of the bracket that mounts the cowl
