I know this is old, but this thread got me to thinking - scary thought. Wink Anyway, from the looks of these, they weld onto the axle end of the control arms, right? What about the frame end on the rear mount? I'm thinking about fabbing something up like this. 3/16" seem like the right size?

I think the premise is more to protect the mount itself than the arm. I've bent up my mounts a little from wheeling. I don't know anyone personally that has tore up a mount that bad, but looking at how thick (or not thick) the OEM mounts are, I can't imagine that it would be out of the question. Hell, for $20 with the link that Erik posted, I think I'd be nuts to pass on them (unless I'd be clever enough to make my own, but I don't trust myself doing that Wink ).

dude..broke mine completly off...I'm not the first. Known weak point.

I've broken two control arms, and ripped off the control arm mounts on both sides. Both have been replaced by much beefier RE mounts, and the those weld-on skids will fit perfectly (I have a pair waiting for me at a buddy's). I hear that it takes a bit of work getting them onto the stock mount, though, because of the thinness of the steel and the rolled edge. I'd recommend welding on new mounts and then the skids.
