I have had death wobble about 5 times since my lift.. (No only,.. but 5 separate times with a different fix each time..)

Sooo... Here it is...
I am getting very upset with my new High pinion dana 30 front.. It is constantly leaking and I keep changing the axle seals.. (Death wobble appears to be damaging axle tube seals.. Is that even possible??)

SO I am going to swap it along with my Turdy 5 for Dana 44 front and Rear..

I have access to the rear with a set of 4:10's and welded spiders ... Very Happy Very Happy
For an unbeatable price...
All I need to find is the front drivers side drop 44...

Here is the question ...

When I do the swap should I change the stupid coil spring and 4 link for a good old tried and true.. Leaf spring set up...

That would make it much much easier to lift and death wobble will be a thing of the past.. The only down side I can think of is that I would have to custom fab all the stuff.. Including steering linkages ..

On the up side of that .. I could do a high steer conversion on the 44 easily..

OK enough rambling ... What do you guys think???

Carl

silly coil springs hehe um this would be a cool swap no more rear steer less complications and i bet it would be easy to set up some traction bars for it

I know I can beat it but my anger is over the fact that I keep beating it and it comes back... And I cant help but think If I ever go higher I have to do fight it again.. Sad
Thats why I am thinking of doing it....
I guess I will see how Patricks turns out.. Then make up my mind...
Although putting those 44's front and rear would be very very easy with coil springs... Since all I would have to do it weld on buckets and control arm tabs..
I am just kinda disgruntled with the whole thing.. Rolling Eyes

More Opinins??

Why not start with an XJ kinda conversion? Keep the coils up front and convert the rear to springs. I know that won't help the death wobble issues any, but it'll improve the ride quality and elimate any rear issues caused by a taller lift and coils. Although going all springs does leave SOA as an option as well (I'm guessing that's your plan if you go this route). What kinda DW issues were you having because I've been kicking around a HP30 option if I could find a junker for the right price?

Don't get rid of your coils they shouldn't be the problem causing the death wobble. More than likely it is poor stearing geometry in relation to the front track bar. If I were you I would go with the 44's front and rear and then do hightop stearing on the front. That should take care of alot of your problems. If you still have problems after that then you can fabricate your own front trackbar and mounting bracket so that the track bar and draglink are parallel to each other. That is how my jeep is done, and I was running 8" of lift with 37's and no stearing stabilizer and I never had a problem with DW or bumpstear.

Another route you could take is puting hydraulic assist on it. That would be cheaper than any other option and less work too. Anyway this is just my $.02 worth you have to do what you think will work best. Mr. Green

Right now I have a friend with severe death wobble and he has a CJ-7. So apparently it isn't just a coil spring thing.

I ran coils in the front with custom long arms along with CJ 4" lift rear springs (yes, leafs) SUA to give me a 6" lift on my 99 TJ. I had DW problems until I added a Skyjacker adj front trackbar. I never reconnected my steering stabilizer. On one of my wheelin trips, I broke an axle swaybar mount (running connected to keep the 37's out of the fenders with a 1" bl) and then just shucked the swaybar altogether. I ran without swaybars or a steering stabilizer for over a year. Mind you, you must keep the front end aligned and tires balanced.

Here it sits with 37's and 3" bl....
