In my 93, I know my VC is heading out (gone?)
less than 40 miles drive, and it'll start to lock up.

Anyone happen to know what removing the front driveshaft will do? I know people have said it's "bad" to do in the early ZJ's, but noone really says what happens.

You can not remove the front shaft on a 93 it will completly destroy your VC wich will inturn put the kibosh on your T-Case..

Swap that puppy as soon as you can ...

By the way.. Its not a big deal to ride on it with a bad VC.. I rode mine for almost a year while I decided what to do..

Check out the tech link at the top of the page for what might just be the best t-case swap writeup on the intraweb.. Mr. Green

Oh to answer your question.. Removing the front shaft will make the VC spin concstantly .. It will over work your T-Case which is designed to split the power .. It will start to make a huge racket and eventually your case will explode and kill hundreds... (Ok I made that part up.. rofl )

IT will destroy your case.. Not like it matters that much since your VC is bad already.. But Driving with a bad VC will not hurt .. Driving without a front shaft will kill the T-Case..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is the honest truth..

Look for a 231 or 242 in the bone yard and snatch that puppy out..

Let me know if you have any other questions..

Tomorrow after my Diff. Eq. class, I'm off to the one "junk" yard that I've been told has jeeps left in it, in my quest for a 242.

I just wasn't sure if driving without the front shaft would kill my VC, or destroy the case- since I want to keep driving, destroying the case isn't an option
