94 4.0L Wrangler

So I have been haing a problem with my Jeep's cooling system in the form of having to add 2 gallons of water everyday. Shocked

I thought that it was a leaking lower hose, so I drained the system and replaced the lower hose. I filled it back up and now it is absolutely pouring out. It looks like it is coming from somewhere around the area that the lower radiator hose comes out of the engine at (around the oil pan area). This happens to get onto a pulley and sling it on the fan which slings it everywhere else.

Anybody got any ideas? Is there a special way to attach a new radiator hose to the engine (I just used the old hose clamp)? Should I have used some type of sealant? I'm not to savvy with engines, is there some type of gasket that could have blown and is leaking all of my coolant out?

I'm trying to fix this myself but I'm starting to get pissed off. I'lll take it somewhere if I have to, but I'm not to that point yet.

Please someone help.

Oh, and for you hippies I have been catching the leaking coolant with a drainpan. flipoff agree

Couple different things you can check:

-Leaking out of the water pump weep hole: defective water pump seals
-Coolant in the engine oil, oil looks like a milkshake: damaged head gasket
-Cylinder head bolts loose
-Engine coolant drain plug leaking

I left the check the hoses line out, because you did that.

Hope that helps.

I searched a bit and could only find one...and it's for the 4.0L. I know, it's not the same engine as you have, but it should give you a pretty good idea of what's involved.

Rock On!

For some reason I thought you had a 4.2L....I can never remember what year that changeover was.

Those two should help out. In my experience a 4.0 is a 4.0 is a 4.0. Everything else is just details. Mr. Green

Between those two I should be able to piece it together.

Steve, unless I'm wrong the 4.0 went in the 91's and above. 91 is the sweet spot where you have the 4.0 AND the CJ style slant rollbar. Man I'd like to have one of those. Very Happy

My vote is the water pump. Take lots of pics so we can have our own write-up. Wink

But then again, your leak might be caused by your square headlights. Finger

New Water Pump, New Thermostat. I'm so tired right now I think I'm seeing double. I forgot to take pics, but Stu's write up got me through it. It went exactly like he said it would, except the serpentine belt adjustment is different for YJ's.

I did feel kind of like an idiot after everything was put back together. I started the Jeep up and waited for the temp guage to rise, and it wouldn't pass the 150-160 range. I turned on the heater, and still it wouldn't get up to 210. SO I wonder what is wrong and then I see the empty thermostat box. I put in a 160 thermostat. Thus, I am an idiot.

Thank all you guys for your help too. I'm gonna try and email stu too, I try to email or post when a write up has helped me out.
