It's pressed in on 97's and up...why they still put a torx head on it is beyond me. I cursed and shouted at it for awhile...then drilled it out. Mr. Green

Second on what Phantum said. I got a 98, I gave up and left them on for now, but will need to drill it sooner or later.

Might I suggest going to the Store of Hardware and purchasing a titanium "metal" drill bit. I have one now that was about $20 and it goes through bolt heads and everything else like a hot knife. Its worth the investment and it will save alot of time.

Will do on the bitt, sounds like something good to have around. Most of the replies I have been getting is to heat up the bracket and smack it or use a big ass C clamp and press it out. I will try that first, but if no luck, cutting the bolt and drilling it out is plan b!

Thanks for yalls input!!!!

It's actually not that bad. Like Corey said...a titainium drill bit goes through it like a knife through warm butter. I think it took me all of 5 minutes to drill out both sides.

I just remember that it was a pita to get it out, but drilling it out was all he could do, the C clamp didn't work

Yeah, but that's if the titanium drill bit is actually SHARP... tool

Finger

Try drilling out three shock bolts (Phantum drilled out two, I got the other one) from underneath the XJ in the back with no leverage, upside-down, and in 100% humidity. Redefines the meaning of the word "fun".

Yes Yes - I was up until 2 AM underneath the ass end of the XJ drilling those God forsaken shock bolts out, retapping them and searching for new bolts amidst my coffee cans full of nuts and bolts. It was hot out, I was tired, my help had all gone home, and my drill was starting to die on me. Needless to say I finally got them, but that was by far the worst part of the whole suspension. The rear shocks made the front springs AND shocks look like a walk in the park.......

CoreyXJ w/ dull drill bits.

WELL CRAP, THAT IS THE POINT IM AT NOW :-(

I snapped all 4 upper bolts. I seen a write up on cutting thru the floor, just im concerned if I change shocks again what a pain in the butt that will be.

IM also hung up on waiting for a longer rear brake hose. Aint no amount of repositioning im gonna get that stock hose to play nice with this lift Evil or Very Mad So thats another 4 days till its in. Sad

Oh, I grinded and drilled out the sway bolts. A pita, but it worked.
