I have been looking around at tires for my jeep and I don't know how wide I should get them. I live in colorado so I will mostly be doing rock climbing but I want to get a good set for on the road to because this is a daily driven car.

I guess it would depend on the size?? I personaly like the looks of a wider tire say 33x10.50 vs 33x12.50, on a good size rim too. Looks more like a monster truck Very Happy

The wider the tire, the more rolling resistance you are going to get since the contact patch with the road is larger. How wide you can go is going to depend mainly on how much lift you have and what backspacing you run. Other things can be factored into it as well (i.e. aftermarket LCA's can give a little more clearance that the factory ones).

As a general rule, for stock height on stock backspacing 9.5" is about the widest you can go. Check this thread out. It'll give you some ballpark figures of what tires fit what lift heights...but again, these are just rules of thumb.

How much lift do you have and how are your rims backspaced?

Steve
