Okay, I need some tow hooks for the rear any ideas?? Thought of a trailer hitch, but that would be it's only use. The rear bumper I use, I installed a factory tire carrier, so can't get rid of the stock bumper. Prefer a frame mounted on each side. Any suggestions/ideas would be great!!

Vic...
I think that most XJ models have bolt holes that come pre-threaded on the passenger side "framerail". Look up around where the exhaust pipe is and you should see the bolt holes. They are 1/2" bolts so get a tow hook and go to it. The front has a couple of options. You can buy aftermarket bumpers that have everything to circle rings to D rings... but if you are going to run the stock bumper then you need to get the tow hook brackets which are available from dealerships. They are pretty easy to install and requires the removal of the front bumper. Any more questions just ask away !!!

Corey XJ Thanks, I have tow hooks up front C4X4 kit from Jeepin Outfitters, so I just need something for the rear. Maybe I'll try that. Nice pic by the way! Mr. Green

You will definatley need brackets to tie the tow hooks to the frame rails. I've read about folks who have just bolted a hook to the rear frame rail and torn the hook out (tearing up the rail in the process) during a revovery. Shocked

On XJ's, reciever hitches or aftermarket bumpers are usually the better options. The reason being is that they mount to both frame rails, (essentially tying them together), which servers to strengthen the unibody as a whole as well as distributes the load across both rails during a recovery.

A tow hook/bracket assembly simply mounted to the rail puts all the stress on the one rail during a recovery.

HTH.

Rock On!

Steve

I second the reciever hitch type. I have a Warn shackle on my hitch and I have been pulled out and I have yanked the crap with this set up with no problems on the frame or nothing. I have also bottomed out on my hitch and I think it has saved my stock bumper many times over.

Its also really easy to do, but its a 2 person job.

Cool!! I'll have to keep looking for one!! None so far in the junk yards, and I don't like the universal one Wal-mart sells. But I think it's the best way to go too, I had a cheapy factory ball hitch Crying or Very sad Gone, so I have holes and the nutcert still there, now to find one. Thanks all Very Happy

Thoes tow hook brackets are for the front. There is no brackets that are in production for the rear of the XJ's. If you don't want to go with a rear bumper then your only real option for anything that is going to be strong is a tow hitch. I say go with a rear bumper that is going to suit your needs. I went with the best of both worlds and got a Wilderness swing away. The bumper itself beefs up the rear end bulkhead and has not only a 2"hitch and 2 d-rings. Plus it carries tons of stuff. My spare, axe, shovel, gas can, High Lift Jack and CB attenna is all on the swingaway.
