My nephew lost power to the blower of his 2000 Cherokee. So he has no AC, defroster, or heater. I thought it might be a fuse but the fuse block doesnít say what the fuses go to. The manual says see fuse block and the block says see manual. I donít want to probe too much and set of the air bag.

There should be a fuse, it will probably be in the Power Control Module under the hood...there might even be a relay for it in there. I'll check the bible (FSM) whan I get home in the morning and get back to ya.

Go to this thread and download the 2000XJ FSM that KeithTJ so gratefully provided for us from Quan: http://jeephorizons.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2284

If you're using dial-up, specifically download Chapters 8W and 24 labeled exj_8w.pdf and exj_24.pdf instead of the whole zipped 41 odd mb zip file to save time, but get the whole thing when time permits. Chapter 24 explains troubleshooting the Heating and A/C. Page 24-12 starts the description, diagnostic and testing for the Blower Motor. I've never messed with the A/C system so I can't answer specific questions off the cuff, but I know the FSM has all the info where I listed. Chapter 8W is the Wiring Diagrams and has the fuses listed for the system.

The A/C system has three fuses that I can tell, 6 and 11 in the PDC and 25 in the Junction Box. The Blower Motor Relay is located under the A/C housing behind the glove box. There's other switches and relays, so get into the FSM, 8W-42 starts the A/C Heater specs.

It's fuse 6 (40A) in the PDC under the hood. That fuse feeds the resistor which feeds the relay which feeds the motor.

It's on page 8W-10-21.

This was a looking a little funky, after review the #11 fuse is for a diesel engine. #6 is the one.

Yea, did a little hunting...turns out there were diesels put in XJ's:

A Renault 2.1L 4cyl. Turbo Diesel was used in 85-87, so it would not be included in a 2000 XJ FSM.

An Italian VM 2.5L Turbo Diesel was used in overseas XJs, which is the diesel the FSM refers to.

Thanks that FSM was just what the Dr. ordered. Would you by chance have the site for my 99 WJ Grand Cherokee?

Guys,
I had the blower fail on my 96 Cherokee twice. First time no blower at all and second time, 5 years later, blower on high all the time. Both times it was the resistor block in the passenger footwell had corroded. Probably due to the high humidity here in Dubai. New part fitted and greased up this time and no problems since. Hope this helps.
