I certainly wouldn't stretch it more than the factory rating. The issue comes down the wheelbase and the weight. With a vehicle smaller than the trailer, in weight, you end up pushing the vehicle with the trailer when trying to stop. This isn't a good thing and will spin your rear end right around under the right conditions.

The V8 also has more pulling power to get started and may have better brakes for stopping. For example, aren't the V8 GC's standard discs in the rear???

You do what you want....it's my recommendation not to go above the factory tow ratings.

Typically, tow ratings are determined by the combination of engine size, transmission, axle ratio and brakes. In addition to the trailer weight, you need to include the weight of your passengers and anything else you have in the jeep to determine your GVWR.
If you end up with a trailer larger and heavier than the tow rig, you can end up with something like the tail wagging the dog. Also, as you approach the jeep's limit, you'll want to look at an equalizing hitch to distribute the weight and keep swaying to a minimum.
Just some stuff to keep in mind when trailer shopping. Wink

That wouldn't be a minivan...that's a fullsize. Mr. Green

I hope it has brakes .. But anyway.. The problem with towing that much weight will be more likely the I6. It has plenty of torque but that is a hell of alot of weight..
Your second problem will be that you most likely have the 42RH Tranny.. It is definatly your weak link.. Make sure you have a big tranny cooler and a tranny temp gauge if you decide to tow a trailer that heavy..

And the load dispersing hitch will help...

What kind of terrain will you be towing on??

Oh also make sure you have a class 4 hitch.. I think the I6 towing package was class 3, But I am not sure.. that is all I can think of..

Good luck...

Carl
