Ok, I just installed my Cobra 75. Hot lead directly to batter, fused inline. Grounded to a bolt on the firewall. The antenna is a 3' Firestik II, mounted to my rear swingaway. I'm using an 18' Firestik Firering, passing it over the gas tank, and along the brakeline brackets. I'm also running a grounding wire from the antenna mount down to a frame bolt.

I'm getting some serious feedback when the jeep is turned on. I'm assuming it's probably the fuel pump. Any ideas on how to combat this? Should I find a way to shield the cable somehow?

Do you have a noise surpressor on the power line? I had all kinds of noise on mine until I installed one.

Yup, Trashack has a CB line noise suppressor with a built-in fuse to dampen line distortion from engine noise. I have the same unit (Cobra 75WX-ST), and it barked all over the place until I installed that little gem with it. It also does not impact range any, so it's almost a necessity for good CB'ers.

You could also double-check how you ground out the black cable. If you are not precisely ground to the chassis you'll pick up even more interference than normal. Double-check where you mounted your ground wire for misplacement. Against the firewall or directly to the frame are good ground points.
