Well, this is my first post here. Looks like a good place to learn. My 2000 Grand Cherokee front passenger window stoped working. I heard a crunching noise and the window now wants to fall to the bottom. I got it taped up and managed to get the door panel off. Then, I went and bought a new window motor. I just asumed that it was the motor. Now I am not so sure. Motor makes a little rumble when switched on. My question is: How does one get the whole assembly out of the door to work on it. Do you need to un-attach it from the window and let the whole thing drop out?
I sure could use some advice from a seasoned Jeep person.
Thanks

Take off the door skin.. And make sure the motor goes up and down..

It probobly just pulled out of the rail .. I used clear silicone in the bottom of the rail and push the window back into the rail .. Then roll the window up and let the silicone dry..

If the motor is bad let me know.. I have one here that might work.. Mr. Green

I assume the 2000 is like the 2001. If so there are 2 cables that loop
through a spool on the end of the motor. There is a bead, similar to bike
brakes, on the end of each cable.

The lift cable is the one that breaks. It goes over the pully at the top and
attaches to a plastic anchor block on the lift bracket. This cheap piece of
plastic breaks off and down the window goes.

Hopefully you didn't toggle the switch too much to trying to get the window
to work. If you did there's a chance that the loose cable bound up on the
spool damaging both the cable and the cheap plastic spool. If you got
lucky and the inards are okay do like I did.

Drill a hole in the metall lift bracket near the broken plastic block.
Attach an electrical eyelet to the cable, behind the bead. Use a small
screw and nut to attach the eyelet to the bracket. Seems to work so far.

I just did this, the passenger side broke then an hour later the driver side
broke. Unfortunately, I kept trying to make the passenger side go up.

Anybody checked to see if the XJ and ZJ window regulators are the same? If so, here's an XJ write-up. http://jeephorizons.com/tech/xjwindow.html

I am having a similar problem with my 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo passenger front window. The dealer wants to charge me almost $400 dollars to fix!

On a scale of 1 to 10 is this a difficult thing to fix? Also does anyone know where I can get the part other than at the dealer? According to the dealer the window regulator and motor come as one part.

Thanks for any help guys!

If it's the same as the XJ, which I believe it is, it's pretty easy to do, maybe a 5. You might want to forgo the cost of a new part if you frequent the boneyard. If I had the time when it happened I would have done that instead of getting the $120 regulator from the stealership. Check out the write-up here clicky

As far as aftermarket regulators, I haven't seen any. Check with the Dealer and see if Swampy's part will work for you off of the 93.
