My G/F's 94' Wrangler has developed a bad trans leak. It leaks gear oil through the top of the shift tower and runs out all over the carpeting.Crying or Very sadI checked to see if it was overfilled and cleaned the vent tube. It wasn't overfilled and the vent tube was fine. I removed the shift level from the shift tower and found a set of stacked rubber o-ring seals under it. This seemed to be the most logical thing that could cause this leak. I tried the dealership for the o-ring and they don't sell it separately. You have to buy a shift tower plate for $187 just to get the damn o-ring! I managed to find the o-ring at Napa for $4.49 I put a link for this part below for anyone who may have this problem. Has anyone experienced this problem with their AX-5 trans? I'm interested to see if it's a common problem.

Good info, hopefully, this doesn't happen to mine next, but it'll save some $$$. Wink

I went to Napa and looked at the o-ring I listed above. It turns out the o-ring Napa has is a seal for the inside of the transmission, and not for the shift handle retainer plate. I did however find the correct part at Turner 4WD. This is the correct o-ring for this application. It costs a little more, but it's the right part and that's what counts. Sorry for the mix-up, here's a link for the correct o-ring seal: http://www.thejeep.com/aisin.html
