I'm looking at DSL - anything's gotta be better than dialup. My question is this:
384 Kbps-1.5Mbps $26.95
1.5Mbps-3.0Mbps $36.99
Is the speed worth the extra $10 and are those good prices? TIA

Those prices look decent. I'd just go with the 384 unless you are into gaming. That is fast enough for web browsing. You can prolly upgrade the service whenever you want to.

If cable is available in your area I'd reccomend that over DSL.

I looked at cable also, it's $24/month but reading the fine print, it goes up to $50/month after the first 3 months. Confused

Depends. How much newsgroup surfing are you planning to do?

Me? I download BUTTLOADS of stuff. I'll pay the extra amount.

I'm a dumbass and pay that extra money to get the higher speeds of Comcast, but it's well worth it for me. But I am a puter geek and I run a web cam and a sometimes web and ftp servers from my home pc. If it's just for the internet and you're not moving allot of Mb's around then go with the 384Mbps, it's only a matter of seconds difference at that point for small pics to download.

I pay $42.99 for mine and I've clocked it over 3.2Mbps.

Well, I've been known to FTP some pretty good sized files. Like when I back up this site. Even zipped, the database is running around 50 MB and takes me a couple of hours on dialup. Confused

If you can actually get those speeds (above 384), you are probably fine with the cheaper one... Sites allow only so much upload/download speed, but it never hurts to go with more Wink

Can you upgrade after you sign up? I do think both are good prices though...

Corey has DSL but it always crashes and sends him off the net. I don't know if that is just through bell south or if everyone experiences that with DSL.

The company that we have DSL through has recently upgraded thier system, so it doesn't crash as much as it used to. When we first got it last year we were lucky to get a good 30 minute run out of it. Now we can leave it on all day and it hardly ever focks up.

Thanks for the info everybody - it'll be nice to actually have fast internet and not have to wait days for stuff to download. Wink
