Hi there,
can someone tell me what housings are under the 1996 ZJ V8.

It has the 249 TC and I know there is a VC in there but how does it work, its always in 4wd I know that much Rolling Eyes is the rear diff with limited slip or.......

How about the front axle is there always power delivered to both wheels or what and will the front wheels sometimes not turn at all for some reason?

Say I put the 242 TC are there other advantages then getting 2wd option.

Thanks Shocked

Well you have dana 30 front and 35 rear .. Look under neath on the rear diff.. If you have a metal tag that says "traction additive required" You have limited slip..

the 242 swap gets rid of full time and gives you a slight improvement in fuel milage..

It also is a locked 4 wheel drive where the 249 is open (meaning the front and rear diffs turn at different speeds ... The 242 they will turn together..

Anything else???

Not unless somebody installed it after it left the factory. If it leaves the factory without a limited slip diff, it'll have an open differential.

Found this on the ARB website:
Quadradrive traction control vehicles require non-Quadradrive axle shaft replacements for Air Locker installation.

Are they referring to the 242 TC swap or the driveshaft itself?

one more thing, what are the stock front and rear gear ratios?

Again look at the metal tag on your axle.. It will say something like

1225 3 73
54556 (3:73 Ratio)

Something like that... If it has towing package it probobly has 3:73 if not then most likely 3:55

And I think they are talking about the Actual axle shafts.. The Grand with Quadra trac will have CV axle in the front .. They are weak.. They are suggesting that you replace them with U-Joint axles..

You can get a set out of an XJ in the bone yard and then put new Joints in them.. They will be good as new..

Good luck..

There you have it... And so you know the factory limited slip is a detroit True track.. That may be what you where talking about when you asked if it had a detroit locker....

Congrats on getting the good axle.. And tow package.. Did you happen to get the factory tow hooks and skids??

Just look underneath .. Metal around the gas tank and bolted to the crossmember under transfer case.. I am sure you know where the tow hooks would be...

You said hooks where there 2 hooks that came with each car?

When I asked about the Detroit locker I thougt It might have the No-Spin locker.

That should be Ok.. But dont be stomping on it on black top till you get that 249 out of there..

Yes there should be 2 tow hooks on the front of the grand..
do you have a digi.. Take a picture of what you are calling a hook>

Does it look like a hook or like a loop??

This is a WJ but the ZJ hooks are about the same..
