i have a problem....

So I have been having this "sputtering"/lopping problem with the engine. Been happening for a little while now. I ran some cleaner through it when it first happened and cleared it up a bit. After a while came back. I ran more cleaner through it with only 1/2 tank. Helped for about a week. Asked a buddy for help. Changed distributor cap, plugs, plug wires, rotor and coil wire. No help.
Happens only at stop/idle. Runs fine when I have my foot on the gas but come to a stop sign and it starts - feels like its gonna stall or die on me. I throw it in neutral and she still does it. Step on the gas ansd it's all good.
Go to Haynes manual... Troubleshootiing....lopping engine at idle and check the list. Checked airbox, PCV, hoses - all that good stuff. There is a small leak in my head gasket.... Neutral
Says that may be part of the problem. I brought her to the shop. No codes and the injectors seem to be fine....

Here's the question. Other than the head gasket..what else could it be at this point? Tech said he didn't think it was something major after driving it but a $5-600 head gasket is a big deal to me. Any thoughts on what I should offer up to him? I am going to be leaving it with him for a week when I am outta town over the holidays but I want to prepare myself for what could be goin on. I have my fingers crossed that it isn't the head gasket cause I don't have the $$ to pay for that.

The favor end...other than offer up some suggestions other than bend over and take it.....Anyone know where I can get a head gasket or does anyone have a junk engine around that they will sell me their head gasket? Am I just totally fukked?

it's the masculine 2.5L 4Cyl auto.....

Thanks Neutral Neutral Neutral Neutral

I bought an entire engine gasket set at Advanced auto when I rebuilt my engine for $60 bucks.. I bet a head gasket is only about $15 or $20...

OK here you go... From Autozone...

http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performSearch&Parameters=Auto+Store%7C%7EREGULAR+PARTS+LOOK+UP%7C%7EHEAD+GASKET

$10ish bucks... Cant beat that..

Do it yourself its very easy.. and you will save $550 dollars ( after you Buy some oil , RTV and shop rags.....)

It shows you exactly how to do it in Chiltons or haynes or whatever manual you have..

Might want to also pull out your engine temp sensor .. and check to make sure its clean.. and I dont know much about the 4 banger but it may have an Idle air contro. on the throttle body.. Change that...(http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=C001&UserAction=performSearch&Parameters=Auto+Store%7C%7EREGULAR+PARTS+LOOK+UP%7C%7EIDLE+AIR+CONTROL+VALVE)

Good luck..
Oh and there are only two screws on the IAC.. Do that yourself to... Mr. Green
