Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and the jeep horizons site. I have a 02 jeep liberty sport and I had some questions about the 4x4 system.

I live here in Henderson, Nevada and there's not alot of areas to engage my 4x4 system except when I go to the mountains to snowboard or when it rains...heavily....which is kinda rare too.

When I do engage the 4x4 system to show "PART TIME" when going to very wet and or snowy conditions the steering gets heavy which i'm sure is normal but what I don't get is that when turning the Liberty it does so with great resistance. It even makes whining sounds. I know not to use it when it's dry and normal and I only use it in extreme emergencies where I might need better traction...again not on dry roads unless it's like very rocky like on the highway off ramps and such.

Thanks for your time and suggestions and I'm happy to be here!
Jeremy

It's perfectly normal. It only does that because the wheels turn at the exact same speed when in 4WD, as oppposed to being able to spin independently of one another as in 2WD. Just pop it out of 4WD before sharp turns, like in a parking lot or pulling into your driveway.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with engaging 4HI while driving, regardless of the conditions, as long as you're going under 55 mph. All of this stuff should be somewhere in the owner's manual. Hopefully this helps.

::Edit:: I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do this, but I also got this link from elsewhere on this board, so I should be ok. Check out http://www.kjjeep.com/. It's all about KJ's, and they have a forum that gets a lot more traffic than this KJ forum.
