Will having that extra gear really help you out though?

It should - first gear will be 4.46:1 compared to the current 3.85:1 and 4.04:1.

I know that I'm stupid but how does the shifter move to reverse compared to a 5 speed? I guess what I am asking is where is the 7th position?

There's another position for it either all the way to the left or right. Sometimes towards the front or rear. If you see the shift knob, it'll make sense.

This is an example of the Ferrari 6 Speed

But will it handle like a Ferrari? Finger
On my F250, I have this pattern:
R 1 3 5
L 2 4
I figure it'll be something like that.

If they would put that tranny in the unlimited rubicon edition I would probably get one...with a 4:1 that should be a pretty nice crawl ratio.
especially on 35s with 4:88 gears!

Anybody KNOW anything about where its made or the source company? Never heard of "NSG" and couldnt find much on a web search. All I really could get out of it was its asian. That covers a lot of ground.I d have been happier if they had mated the NP4500 to our 4.0's

I have a new Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited with the 6 speed. The pattern is
1 3 5
2 4 6 R

Warn passenger before shifting into Rev cause the shift lever will hit his/her knee.

I asked dealer about transmission and he said it is a Daimler product. It shifts very smooth and easily, without searching for the next gear.

Is there any info the other gears? 1st is better than previous Wranglers but what about reverse ratio, or the percentage of overdrive? Will it replace earlier trannys without modifications?
The reason I ask is my AX15 in my 98TJ is showing signs of wear (synchros for sure) and I have no intention of rebuilding it. The NV4500 has been my choice up to this point... and still may be the best choice for strength and durability.

1st - 4.459:1
2nd - 2.614:1
3rd - 1.723:1
4th - 1:1
5th - 0.838:1
R - 4.06:1

And 6.29:1 for the lowest gear. Dr. Internet, are the gears on yours labeled 1-6 or Low, 1-6? My source lists them in the order above but doesn't clarify what they're calling the lowest gear.

They are labeled 1-6 and R.
I have discovered that when I'm by myself and not hauling or towing anything, the vehicle starts very easily in 2nd gear. There seems to be plenty of torque to get things moving.

I beleive the gear ratios are as follows:

1st - 4.46:1
2nd - 2.61:1
3rd - 1.72:1
4th - 1.25:1
5th - 1:1
6th - 0.84:1
R - 4.06:1

I would also like one of these transmissions eventually, and I'm looking forward to info from the swap.

It is strange that there is so little information available about the manufacturer. I have never heard of NSG...

I understand these trannies are not quite as strong as the NVG3550, but provide much smoother shifting due to better synchronization, quieter operation, and obviously the extra gear on the low end.
