couple of questions about THIS site.

First off - I am talking about my 95 YJ 2.5l 4cyl...

1. What price and I looking at for the rebuilt?

2. What does Core mean?

3. How good is a rebuilt motor compared to a new motor? Is New a brand new never been put in engine? Which is the better deal? Is it worth the extra couple hundred for the new one compared to the rebuilt?

thanks guys.

OK, first off there's a difference between short and long blocks. A short block will not include cylinder heads. A long block will. If you plan to re-use your heads, then go for the short block.

The "core" is you old engine.

The rebuilt engine will be a used block (re-machined of course). Possibly with re-machined parts (pistons, crank, etc.). Normally, only the bearings, seals, etc. will be new. The new engine will be all new parts...including a freshly cast block.
Me? I would hook my old one and rebuild it in my garage...maybe do a stroker kit too... Finger

Seriously, you'll get the same warranty either way...but if I were you (and my wallet could do it) I would go for new.

As long as the rebuilt is from a reputable source they can in many ways be better than what comes stock.

Over the life of an engine, they become "seasoned" which basically means that the metal structure has become highly stabilized. A good engine remanufacture will magnaflux the block, head, and crank before they rebuild it. Check to see if the source does this or not. If not, dont bother and look for another source. Magnafluxing is a process of checking for cracks or stress marks of any sort.

If I was in the need of a new engine and had the extra time and money I would also use a good machine shop for that type of work and then assemble the engine myself with high end parts or do the stroker engine like Steve mentioned. Thats the expensive and time consuming route.

IF I was just in a rush to get it back running again and money was tight, then I would go for a rebuilt without a second guess.

No...it's not a discount. More like a deposit. You'll pay a core charge to them, which you'll get back when you return your old engine.
