M8000 is a good basic winch that'll be reliable.

Mile Marker makes good winches (they are on the front of all the Army Rigs) and they are much cheaper than Warn... That being said.. I dont plan on winching much.. I will probobly buy a Harbor Freight winch...

Harbor freight is very good about swapping their stuff out.. And the winch has a 2 year warranty.. I could swap it every year just to make sure Im good...

OH and for the record .. A buddy of mine has one and all the stats on the Harbor freight site are wrong. The winch has all the same states as the Mile Marker 8000 and the Ramsey 8000 (Which are Identicle..)

Good doesnt have to mean expensive.. Look around and ask others about their experience...

Ok.. Just for the record..
Mile Marker PE8000

Ramsey REW 8000

And harbor freight REW 8000

If they look the same .... Its because they are .... All three of them have the same specs...(Harbor Freight winch does have a hawse instead of a roller though...) Oh and Like I said .. Harbor Freights website is wrong...

I have read some bad stuff about the Harbor Freight winch.. But it always seems to be hear say.. "My Brothers cousin had one and it caught on fire and started a raging forest fire killing hundred of California residents.. "

But I have seen it first hand and it works fine.. Its a little slower than the warn.. But when I am stuck I am not so concerned about wheter it takes me 3 minutes instead of 5 to get out of a hole..

Just my input.. Good luck and let us know what you decide...

I've had experience with the HF winch [DirtyRedTJ has one] I pulls just fine for what it is. I should have bought one instead of my Ward, but oh well.

You can usually get them a little cheaper at a store, if there are any up in our area.

O yeah, the HF winch INCLUDES universal mounting plate. Even if you didn't use it, you can get about $20-30 out of it [HF sells a Jeep mounting plate for about $40]

i HAVE THE x9000i and I love it, but like I said, the HF is a better deal. I cna take detailed pics of the Warn now, and if you have some time I can get ahold of some detailed pics of the HF one. It may help you decide.

Start looking on eBay too, there are a lot of great deals to be found.

My problem with HF stuff is replacement parts (if it makes it past the warranty period) most everything they sell is chinese.
My choice is still Warn. I have an early model XD9000I over 10 years old now, on its second Jeep, and I woudn't trade it for two of the others. I must confess I didn't pay full price for it, I have a freind who was a dealer and sold to club members at a hell of a discount.

What E said. That's the one I'm looking at getting as well. It's got a nice low profile too...which keeps it from blocking too much of the radiator.

I had an X9000i and everytime we tried to use it, it would fail, Either a bad connection or a bad solinoid or the motor burnt up.. There was always some issue... It pissed me off ... We would test it before every ride .. Then when it came time to use it.. we would test it agian.. Then you switch it to neutral pull out some cable and it wouldn t work... pissed Long story short.. Its a boat anchor... rofl rofl

Now I am going to pick up a Warn M8000 but only because its cheap and I am getting it from a friend for $300..

Here is another option for you..

and here are the specs for the Warn M8000

No load 42(12.Cool 80 amps 1/8000(3629)

A Warn X8000i has gotten me and many of my friends outta lots of nasty stuff through the last year. Operates at a good speed too. Have never had any issues with mine or the others in our club. I have had to relie on mine also when others failed to do the job so no complains for this Warn owner!
