First of all, Hello to all. After being jeepless for 1 yr. I finally bought another. My previous jeep was a 1953 m38a1. Ok I am going to lift my jeep this weekend got a 4 inch lift from rough country. gonna run procomp 33s, i am going to have to change my 3.07s to 4.56s. My question is, Do I need new carriers for the 30 and 35 . Planning on lok-rites for front and back.

KAZ is working out the details for his 04 TJ, he has the same setup with the 3.07's and he wants to go to either 4.11 or 4.56 like yourself. If you go above a 3.73 from a lower gearing you definately have to change the carrier. Post up some picks before and after...we love pics. Hey and good luck with the lift this weekend. I'm doing my XJ this weekend, only 2 inches though.

thanks. I am going to look on ebay for some carriers then. I do not have dig cam. I will ask my nieghbor if he can take some pics and e-mail them to myself. second question. Should I set up the gears myself or pay a shop to set up the gears?

I'll do a lift, but neither of us know anything about the gearing, so the TJ will be going to a shop. Someone else may pipe up on that one.

Yes, you will need new carriers for a D30/35 when going from 3.07 to 4.56.

The carrier break on a D30 is at 3.73. 3.54 and below is one carrier. 3.73 and above is another carrier.

According to Randy's Ring and Pinion (www.ringpinion.com) the D35 carrier break is at 3.54. 3.07 and below is one carrier. 3.54 and above is another carrier.

Just for reference, the D44 carrier break is 3.73 down and 3.92 up. There is no carrier break on an 8.8.

Read WhatWasIThinkin's post in this thread (he also posted an exploded diagram that'll help.) Are you planning to regear the 8.8?

With the 4.0L, the 4.56's will do the job running 35's, as that is what I run. I an getting ready to swap in a rear D44 out of a Rodeo and a front D44 out of a Waggy and go to 4.88's to run 36 or 37's.

The D44 Rodeo swap is a great swap. Disk brakes and 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern.
