Chris at work has a straight pipe cat back on his XJ 4.0, he said he got a ticket 5 years ago for the noise, and the cop was going to give him a ticket for a straight pipe but Chris talked him out of it cause the cat was still there. So it's not a straight pipe from the engine as long as you leave the cat. Did that make sense?

OK, I went out and found this at the local NAPA. Not only are they a store, they are the local warehouse, so Norman the NAPA Guy walked to the warehouse and got it for me. Direct fit muffler 2 1/4" OD both ends. You're supposed to weld the tail pipe on, but I'm not gonna do that. I got an adapter that should fit...2 1/4" OD x 2 1/4" ID into the 2 1/4" tail pipe. Too bad the Fredericksburg store when Vic and Allen went wasn't a warehouse I could be done with this mess. Anyway, here they are; muffler, fitting and clamp (nothing special, just OEM).

Last post about the wrenching party for me:

UPDATE on my XJ (things started that weren't finished):

- The exhaust is fully functional and not missing any required parts mandated by state or federal law (purchased 4 clamps, catalytic converter, muffler and rear exhaust pipe).
- Shocks are still needed.
- NO ALIGNMENT NEEDED: Wheel balance and alignment check completed today, they did not have to adjust the alignment and that's after a 2" suspension lift...WOW!!!
