I have a 3 speed auto trans in my 4.0 2000 TJ...It's a pig Evil or Very Mad . I want to install 5 speed manual Very Happy OR Automatic Smile . I want the torque... yet the overdrive... What would fit and where is the best source to get them Confused.

AW-4 from an XJ. Strong, reliable 4-speed auto.

The 3550 is a little better 5-speed than the AX-15. You don't have to change the engine computer when you go to the manual, but you will notice some difference in the idle along with a/c kicking on/off.
You might consider going with the AW-4, as suggested, as it gives you the overdrive. Only problem is the length. There is a guy on pirate4x4 who sells a kit to make the AW-4 a manual shift keeping the torque convertor locked in any gear and able to keep the tranny in any gear desired - even 1st.

I am getting ready to install a Dodge 435 (4 speed manual) in my Grand ..

I will do a writeup of couse but it wont be the same for you anyway.. I have the 5.2 Mr. Green
