1995 Cheroke Sport 4.0
2WD

This does not happen every time, but at least once a day if I take a few trips. I'll turn the key in the ignition, and get nothing. No lights in the dashboard. So I jiggle the gearshift a little and try again. I use my thumb on the gearshift button and press it a few times while jiggling the shift handle. I'll turn the key, if nothing then jiggle the handle and try again.
Sometimes I get the lights in the dashboard and the buzzing sound from the ignition without the car turning over, or the car will just start up after I jiggle the handle.

I knew this trick because when I bought the Jeep about 7 months back, it happened to the person trying to sell it to me and that was her trick to get it to start.

After buying the Jeep, I looked online and found that there is a recall on the parking brake interlock switch, so I thought "Cool, I bet thats what needs to be fixed so I can start every time". But it wasn't I'm still experiencing this problem.

My first hunch is that this is a problem with the Starter. But wouldn't I get lights in my dash every time I tried to start it? So now I'm not really sure what it is, so far it has not stranded me, but I don't know how long my luck will last. Seems to me its either the starter, or some electrical/battery connection. (BTW, bought a new battery and cables to eliminate battery as culprit)

If anybody out there has seen this or has any ideas PLEASE ADVISE!! THANK YOU!!

Sounds more like Neutral safety switch.. It is supposed to keep you from starting unless you are in park..
