I have a 99 tj sport with the Danna30 front and Danna35 in the rear with trac-lok. I would like to put a limited slip or auto locker in the front. I also will need to regear after putting on some 33's. I want to go to 4.56's. Do I need to buy special gears for the trac-lok in the rear? When I order the limited slip in the front do I order it with the gears I want? Please give me some input on what I can get for the front that is not too expensive, and also if someone can give me a list of parts I need purchase to have my regear completed.

What gears do you have now? If you've got 3.07's you'll have to change the carrier to go anything above 3.55's. You will not need any special (ring & pinion) gears...the LSD takes the place of the spider gears...

Usually, the gears and LSD are ordered seperatley, but some vendors will put together package deals that include both the gears and the locker/LSD. As far as which one to get, Detriot locker and Lock Right are both fairly inexpensive ways to get lockers under your rig. In regards to parts, you can get most of what you'll need in a master install kit:

pinion bearings & races
carrier bearings & races
pinion seal
crush sleeve
pinion nut
pinion depth shims
carrier side shims
ring gear bolts.
stub shaft bearings & seals
inner axle seals

I got this from Quadretec

#6 and 7 are carriers. Its the part that the ring gear is bolted to. It also is where your locker would be if you had one. Up to 3.54 gears uses 1 type of carrier. 3.55 and higher numeric gears use a different carrier. Its mainly a bolt pattern difference.

How much does a carrier cost? So beside the list of parts listed I need to get a carrier front and rear. Who has a good deal on them.

Carriers are not expensive, I paid under $60 each for my last set of carriers.

So far as 4Wheel Parts installing your gears, most of their stores have a least 1-2 techs that specialize in installing them so I'd feel comfortable with them doing the job. Plus you'll get a warranty from the store that installed them.

You would get new carriers, or lockers if you so choose, from the same place you buy your R&P and install parts from. If you're having 4WP do the install, you'll likely have to buy the parts from them. A lot of shops don't like working with parts they don't sell plus if you buy the stuff from them, you may get a deal on labor.

I would recommend adding in a traction aiding differential while you're paying the labor. No point having it done twice if at a later date you want lockers. At a minimum, have TruTracs installed rather than open diffs. TruTracs are gear driven limited slips. Much better than open diffs with virtually no side effects like a full on locker.

I'll second that. I run one in my rear axle, replacing the factory Trac-loc (clutch pack limited slip prone to slipping). Works much better than the factory option, which in itself is barely a step above being open while wheeling.
