Sure it's not your water pump? I had to replace mine last year.

Freeze plugs are pressed in like a bushing, so thats not something you want to try and "take out" .... It could be a freeze plug that is leeking though, anythings possible. Can you tell exactly where its coming from??

pulled the water pump and put in a new gasket the hoses didnt seem to be to bad , it s kind of hard to pin point the exact location .ie exaust manifold . it seems to be coming from mid to upper level of the block the running along the top of oil pan. not sure if the head would leak like that its my firist 4.0 but it has 210,000 mils and runs strong .the leaks not drimatic but enough that i have to fill the bottle every other day or so .

Well its hard to say without seeing it... But if the head were cracked it would leak but it would also affect the way it runs. It is possible that you have some working its way out through the head gasket. With it running shine a light along the seem where the head meets the block and see if you can tell where its leeking out. I know its hard with all that exhaust/intake stuf in the way, but you really have to pin point where it comes from in order to fix it correctly. You dont want to replace one thing if you do not need to....thats what I mean.

The trouble with that is, you could have the exterior side of the HG go bad and the iner walls still be allright so there wouldnt be any coolant in the oil... Once you get it apart let me know.
