Just finished a CB install...we took out the dash panel under the steering column and cut a hole just big enough to fit the face of the unit through. Then I decided to mount the mic in the upper corner of the gauge panel.

Pics are coming, I just have to go get them developed. Yea...I use a camera with film thumbs

The CB I used was a tiny 40-Channel Mobile CB Radio from RadioShack.
Catalog #: 21-1703
MSRP: $49.99 (w/o tax)
With Tax: $52.49 (not positive...I don't have the reciept with me, but I will edit the post when I find the price with tax.)

PROS:
  • Thieves are going to have a hard time getting it
  • The mic is right there at my hand
  • Looks great
  • Out of the elements (when the top is down)

CONS:
  • Can't see the face

The mount I am going to use is the Single Antenna Mount from Arizona Rocky Road with the Patriotic Red/White/Blue FireStik II 3ft. Antenna. Mr. Green I am going to use K-8A Coax cable. I will most likely run it under the body because I am going to rip out the carpet eventually to roll in a truck bed-liner.

The only con I could think of is not a big deal. It's not hard to remember what channel you are on, and you can just reach down and count the clicks...use a little math and you've got it. Finger

This is the only pic I have of the final project, if you guys want better pics, with the dash out, CB out (for the mount) etc, just say so, then give me about a week to take pics, use up the roll, and get them developed. Finger

enjoy,
