New XJ owner (as of 2/5/05)--2000 Classic-RED!!. Anyone have access to owner's manual or FSMs ? Links already on this site don't appear to work. In the meantime, is there anything odd I need to know about using part-time 4WD or full-time 4WD ? Thanks in advance...

You can get an FSM from Mopar, but expect to spend between $85-$100 for it. It's expensive but well worth the money. You could also shop around eBay, you might be able to find one on CD for less money there.

As for full time vs. part time 4wd...fulltime can be used anywhere. Part time should only be used on loose surfaces (snow, mud, etc.) or when offroad.

Thanks for the info. Not that I am going to try it, but just curious-- what happens if you use the part-time 4WD on "non-slippery" surfaces ?

In corners, the wheels want to turn at different speeds, part time 4WD forces the wheels to turn at the same speed. Driving in PT 4wd on pavement (long term) will therefore screw up either the transfer case or axles or both.
