Hello all, It's me again, the guy who took in some water not too long ago. Well today, the engine's finally had it...driving down I-5 and I hear what's sounds like machine gun blasts go off under the hood & plumes of smoke emit out the rear. I pull over pop the hood, look around, and on the driver's side of the block, there's a baseball sized hole underneath the head! Oil's drippin', things are smokin', I realize this engine's had it, so I say fug it & make my way home 5 more miles (James Bond smoke screen & engine bits flowin' from the rear, I felt horrible). So I'm guessing things got fouled back when things got wet, & I blew the rear piston connecting rod right outta the block? Any body know a good place for full-on engine swaps in SoCal? I was thinkin' an ATK or Jasper crate engine...that's what I did in my '79 Goldeneagle. Def feel like payin' for it, haven't the time/space for DIY. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

That sucks man... I know replacing an engine is something you almost hate to do because its so costly!! On the new engine you may want to try and make it a little more splash friendly... For example - no custom intake...

I would say a Jasper engine would be okay as long as the people putting it in know what the heck they are doing. I don't know if they will give you a core credit for your old block considering it has been through World War 3.

Troy you got any advice, being that you are a west coast man? Most reputable mechanics are capable of doing motor swaps, just watch out for guys who will do it "cheap"

I know a pretty competent guy in N. CA, but I think you're down near Camp Pendleton, right? I'll check around - but that sucks that it blew up on you. Confused

Thanks for the response guys...I am near Camp Pendleton, Carlsbad actually. Yeah it does suck having to replace the engine, but a couple thou beats car payments. I found these guys on the net (http://www.tandjperformance.com/services-engine.htm) say they can put a chevy V6 Vortec in the XJ...that would be intersting, expensive I'm sure, perhaps worth it though. Code3TJ/CoreyXJ thanks for the suggestions, they're much appreciated.
