I have a 5 speed Sport.

I was under the impression I should shift into 4 Low while the engine is running, and in Neutral. However in the manual it states I should be at a slow roll (2-3mph) in neutral when I shift into 4 Low.

What do you all think? Thanks.

you can be at a very slow roll but this is noisy alot of times. I have had better luck to just stop, put it in neutral, clutch in, pull back on that handle. if it dosen't want to go in, wait a min put it into a gear, wait a few secs put it back into neutral and try again, this spins the gears and usally works. I just had a converstion resently about this very thing. good luck Neutral

With Tj 5 speed I can shift while in gear. Come to a complete stop.
I can shift from high to low when moving very slow. You have to learn how to get a feel for it. Wink

I just come to a complete stop, push the clutch in, and yank the lever Mr. Green ....I leave the shifter in gear too.

I too just push the clutch in and work it in. If it won't go, I just move a bit, and it goes in. Don't know about the 2-3mph as I've never read the manual Very Happy

The old saying, every rig is a bit different, and my guess is you'll find the nitch for your rig. Certainly your smarter than I am though...as I usually read manuals and instructions when I can't get things to work right Rolling Eyes I guess old habits die hard. rofl

i have done it several times and it only goes into 4low smoothly when i pull the lever up swift & smooth while im rolling super slow, nearly stopped (only 1~3 mph) and in neutral (on the 5 spped stick) with the clutch in. Wink

its pretty damn funny to watch my wife try to do it. it makes a hell of a racket because she always forgets to do something or keeps rolling too fast or cant get the "feel" of the transfercase lever and thinks it "in" but it aint and the engine winds out when she trys to get 'er going again rofl Rolling Eyes rofl Mr. Green Rolling Eyes

shes really good with the 4wd on her old ford explorer though... Confused
it had a red button on the dashboard that said 4WD! rofl Twisted Evil
