Hi everabody!
Great site. Can anyone tell me if all the comanche rear ends are Dana 44s? I just bought one to swap into my cherokee. The comanche was a 4cyl. 2wd. I'm guessing 4:10 gears. Smile

No, they were an option with the tow package. What year MJ did it come out of?

I'm not sure what axle selections were available on MJ's, but you can use this chart to help ID what axle you've got. It differentiates between Dana 25, 27, 30, 35, 35C, 44 and the AMC model 20.

I don't think MJ's came with Cryco 8.25 axles...but just in case I'm wrong, here's a pic of that one compared with a D35. The 8.25 is on the left:

That chart on the california jeeper page....doesn't list the Dana 44's as an option on the XJ's and the MJ's. We all know that D44's could be ordered from the factory on the 87-89/90 XJ.....and on the 86-91MJ...so they should of listed it as an available option. Alot of the MJ's that had the D44 also had an emblem on the tailgate that said "metric ton package"....or just "metric ton". It would be VERY rare if not impossible to find a D44 that came factory in a 4cylinder MJ. I believe that they HAD to have a 4.0 in them to get the D-44. I could be wrong...but I've never seen/heard of a 4cyl having a D-44 in it...unless it was CHANGED by someone...somewhere along the line.
Good luck in finding a good D-44. I just picked up a good one a couple of weeks ago.
