I found these on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7960935611&category=33640&sspagename=WDVW

These will fit my 98 XJ right, how tricky are they to mount.

I dont think they come with hardware, but I can probably find some somewhere

A XJ's unibody construction is not strong enough to use directly mounted tow hooks. As Vic suggested you should look into a "tow hook bracket" to sandwich and strengthen the frame rail. From the bracket you would mount the tow hooks. The tow hooks that you listed on ebay would work fine, you just need the bracket. Jeep made a factory tow hook bracket that is very similar in design to the C4x4 design, there are others such as Tomken's I believe. I personally like the C4x4. That doesn't mean you can't mount them directly to the frame...you can...I wouldn't advise using it if you do.

Thanks for using my write-up as an example Vic.

What they said...you need the brackets which tie the hooks to the frame rails. Custom 4x4 Fabricartion (C4x4) makes a kit that comes with brackets, all the hardware and hooks for about $75.

Here's a link...scroll a little past halfway down the page:
