I own a 1987 Cherokee Chief wth a great body, ok interior, Good engine, automatic tranny, but blown NP231. It still drives great in 2wd. Anyways. I just drove home a parts Cherokee I bought for 200 dollars with a great condition drive train that drives well in all drive ranges, but *horrible* looking. There is not a single body part that is not dented, or rusted. I guess thats what happens when you live in San Francisco's Inner Mission...

Anyways, The pioneer has a 5 speed manual transmission with NP231, and I would like to convert my Chief to 5 speed while Im throwing in the Tcase. Other then the obvious mechanical swaps Ill haveto do, Do the XJ Automatic equiped cars use a diffrent wiring harness as the manual equiped ones. I know that the ECM is diffrent and will haveto be changed, or will I be able to just throw in the BA10 and go?

I've thought about swapping a manual into my XJ when the time comes that my tranny poops out on me. I have done this sort of swap before on a 96 vehicle and had no computer problems, that was also just a FWD vehicle so I don't know for sure if it would mess with the T-case as far as computer programming goes. I think it should just swap wihout any problems though.

I'll research it a little. I remember reading something about the Tranny Control Module being seperate from the ECM on earlier models. I think your 87 falls into that catagory.

I'll get back to ya. thumbs

how hard is it goin to be for the clutch pedal and linkage and such? and is it a lot easier on older vehicles?

say a 65 mustang or a 1954 dodge?

i was considering grandwagoneer frame and a 54 dodge body and put a 4 on the floor

anywho my main question is new pedals and linkage

how difficult for older vehicles?

Its *MUCH* easier to convert any car to hydrolic clutch then cutting, welding Z-bars and such.

Cool. Thanks. It would be very nice if I can just remove the A/T wiring harness if its an add on, and plug in a manual tranny ECM and go.
