The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has issued a draft health and safety alert concerning spray-on pick-up truck bedliners. NIOSH is concerned about exposure to methylenebis phenyl isocyanate (MDI), toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). These “isocyanates” are widely used in the manufacture of flexible and rigid foams, fibers, coatings such as paints and varnishes and elastomers. Spray-on polyurethane products containing isocyanates have been developed for a wide range of uses to protect steel, aluminum, wood and other surfaces including truck beds, trailers and boats. NIOSH has concluded that exposure to isocyanates may lead to asthma, acute respiratory failure and even death for exposed workers. Note: Not all spray-on bedliner products contain isocyanates. For more information and to submit comments (due Thursday, March 31): http://www2a.cdc.gov/truckbedliner/.

I'm assuming this means for the workers that are spraying on the bedliner?

yeah, i think so erik. i just whizzed through the read (damn long!) and it seems to target applicators of the two-part product. whether the cold low pressure ones or the hot high pressure ones - the only thing consistant was the two part mixes involved. usually poor respirating equipment and/or training were to be blamed as well. guess i'll be happy with my herculiner this summer Smile
