Greetings from the Pacific Northwest everone! I just got back into Jeepin' with this slightly rough '78 CJ 5. There is a DIN cutout in the dash where a previous owner had installed a stereo. Measuring the clearance behind the dash plate there is only 5 inches of clearance before it interferes with the defroster hose (can't have that!). In my old '76 CJ 5 I had years ago I used a standoff trim gasket thing that used the radio slot but brought it out from the dash about an inch, providing sufficient clearance.

Does anyone know where I can get something like this?

I've been exhaustively searching websites for over a week but can't seem to find anything. Please help!

crutchfield's website may have something to offer for you. other than that i'd say check out some of the premade lexan electronic boxes at radio shack?

Go to a local stereo shop and ask for some of the Universal Installation Kits by Metra, Scoshe, or Amp of America. They are the big companies that make a lot of the "abnormal" install kits for older stuff (Pre1990)

Circuit City, Best Buy, Tweeter, etc... Whatever auto stereo shop is close to you.

Very Happy Well, it looks like Crutchfield may have what I'm looking for. Further, what with their excellent return policy, if I can't make it fly, I can return it and they pay for shipping! Kuhl!
