The interchange at the junkyards say 90 & 91 axle shafts for the D35's are different from the the rest. I need an axle shaft for my 91 and I have the D35 from the MJ, probably an 85 or so. Why won't it work? What's different? TIA.

I believe the older ones were not D35c, meaning they are not retained by C-clips inside the differential.

The D35 used in XJ's from 84-89 were non c-clip. 90 and up are all c-clip.

To make matters even more confusing....the "C" in D35c does not denote it as a c-clip axle. It stands for "Custom", meaning it came from Dana unfinished. Clear as mud?

Well, it seem like an axleshaft from 90 on up would work, but the book says it has to be 90 and 91 only. I can get one from a 94 for dirt cheap but it's not supposed to fit.
