Hi All, I've bought the 2005 Wrangler, the model is called Sahara in South AFrica, it has the 4.0L engine and 6 speed manual gearbox, not to sure what the model is called in the US?. My problem is removing the centre cover to get at the radio as I'm installing a hands free cell phone kit and need to connect the auto mute. I've removed the top cover between the dash and windscreen, there are 2 screws in the centre underneath that, but I still cant get the centre cover off. Any help please!!

There's a support rod behind the head unit. It's a silver metal rod that attaches to the topside of the dash up near the windshield. It's bolted in the middle to the head unit. You need to unbolt that before the head unit will come out.

There is a pic in this thread of the portion of the bracket that bolts to the head unit.

I'm not even that far, the part I need to remove is the dash centre trim panel that covers the vents, radio and climate control to get at the radio, I removed the dash upper trim between the dash and windscreen, I then removed the 2 screws that hold the top of the dah cente panel, but I can see anything else holding it.

It's held on with clips at that point.

Isn't there a bolt/screw behind the ash tray too? I can't remember for sure, it's been awhile since I've installed my stereo.

Not on the 03+. On the 97-02, there is a screw behind the ash tray.

This was the hardest easiest part for me. I thought I was going to break it. Then I pulled a little harder and it came right off.

That is a good pic of the bar behind the head unit. I still can't figure out how to get my hands back there w/ a wrench to unbolt it. I unbolted the bar from the dash and pulled it out w/ the head unit. I only swore at it for about 10 mins and broke 2 knuckles Evil or Very Mad

Quadratec should have it soon. I know the guy in Pennsylvania who provides their CB, subwoofer, and dome light bypass switch, and he showed me his prototype for an IPOD adapter...
