I am seriously considering swapping my tired 258 in my CJ-7 for a 360. I will probably upgrade the engine with Edelbrock's Pro-Flo EFI, performer rpm aluminum heads, cam, headers, etc. Does anyone have experience with these parts? Would the 2132 cam or the new 7132 be better for all-around performance and economy? Would a carb system be more dependable and less hassle?
Would it be better to up-grade the 258 with Clifford's aluminum head, .264 cam, weber throttle body EFI, etc.? They claim it will give you 456 lbs. of torque.
I already own a good 360 out of a 84 Wagoneer.

my previous CJ7 had a 258 with the clifford intake, cam and header with an MSD ig. box and it was very strong low end and quite pleasant into the upper rpm ranges...and it sounded very unique as well.....that engine lasted about 8 months...I replaced it with a 304 out of a 3,800 mile plow CJ-5 and added a 600 cfm holley and street dominator intake manifold with some headers and those silly header muffler turnouts that you can drop a golf ball through....very loud......the low end was dung (manifold was for 1500+ rpm) but it really screamed and was very reliable...this was actually in a show jeep of mine that won first place at Bloomsburg truck show back in 91. My current jeep is a 84 CJ-7 that I have outfitted with a .030 over 360 out of a 79 J-10 has a edelbrock manifild and 600 AFB carb with msd ignition and headers....also installed that internal engine oiler pipe from AMC performance when rebuild was being performed. This setup is mean....great low end and it pulls like a train up to about 4000 rpm. I just joined this to get some pictures up.

Which setup was the best? heh I still am partial to my 85 CJ7 with the stock 4 cyl in it........but I think the hot 258 was my favorite....I don;t know if there is any weight savings using the 258 over a amc v8 as they are all boat biggest mistake was taking the th400 out of the J-10 and using it in my current CJ...big, heavy, leecherous.
