Hello everybody. I'm new to this forum and have an 89 YJ with 28,000 miles on it. Since day one when I bought it new, Iíve had all kinds of problems with it. Leaky transfer case seal, leaky rear axle seal, leaky slave cylinder, cracked valve cover, windshield that cracked by itself, squeaky seat frame, you name it, I probably experienced it. Lately a new problem has come up. After the vehicle is hot, there is a vibration or buzzing noise coming from behind the glove box area. It does that intermittently. I canít tell if itís from the engine compartment, (with the engine running, itís too noisy). Has anyone come across this problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

does anybody know what the metal box behind the dashboard on top of the glovebox is? maybe the onboard computer or emission device? I think the buzz is coming from there.

interesting....does the noise happen while driving or at idle, or both?

I have a similar noise coming from the same location, only it sounds more like a tsssssst! noise. Kind of like a hot radiator spewing out little bits of water at a time. I've checked under the hood but I find no trace of anything. I only hear it while driving though. I was hoping it wasn't the heater core. Didn't think of the computer....hmmm anyway, sounds like we both have similar issues.

Have you checked your heater core? Pull up the carpet and see if it's damp on the floor board.

oh btw, sorry to hear about your problems. I was surprised to read of so many probs since it has low miles.

The noise happens while at both driving and fast idling. Once the rpm drops, it goes away. One thing I notice recently since the weather has started getting warmer, it does it more frequently. During the cold winter, it was more of an intermittent annoyance. I donít think this problem is related to the heater core. Everything is dry under the heater and there is no smell of coolant. My guess is still that metal box. I donít drive the Jeep all the time, this is just a minor nuisance right now. I think I just got a lemon when I bought it 16 years ago.

hey... that sucks you had that many problems w/ it, but i've had almost all the same ones. the buzzing noise was something i noticed last year early summer and it subsided by the end of the winter. only thing i can think that helped it is that i stripped my dash out to paint it and got everything good and tight when i put it back in. it could be something just vibrating either in the dash or on the other side of the firewall, check to make sure all the wires and attachements are secure. jeeps have a tendency to build up awkward noises over time... i just spend more on the stereo to cover up lil rattles like that
