Hi there, total newbie to the forum here, so go easy on me. Embarassed

In any case, our family has a 95 Country with about 105k miles on it and the last few weeks when I would go to start it immediately after it would catch it would die off again. I ruled out the starter(maybe unwisely) because we had it replaced not all that long ago. It seems if I keep my foot pumping the gas pedal as I turn the ignition it will catch and stay running, albeit the muffler sounds like it's half clogged while doing so. I was wondering if it could be something having to do with the fuel pump or fuel filter.

The problem is that our mechanic went in for knee replacement surgery and won't be back until the end of the month, and my mother has been borrowing my car the last week or so because she can't afford to take it to the overly expensive dealership. If I had a better understanding and could narrow the problem down we could probably go to a specialized auto shop that would be less expensive, so that's what I'm hoping someone here can give me some idea as to what the problem could be.

It actually had been heating up a bit for about a month before the starting problem began, so I'm curious if that could be part of the problem. I checked the coolant and it was topped off. Now my mother did let the oil get fairly low and she ended up adding 10W-30 to the 10W-40 she already had in the engine, so could that possibly be something that added to the problem?

Any possible help any of you could give me would be so very much appreciated. Very Happy
